In The Neighbourhood

This afternoon after getting back from some shopping we let the rabbits out for a play in their run. About half an hour later there was a knock at the door. It was our neighbour, who we'd never met, and he wanted to warn us that a fox was trying to get into the run. I rushed out back - two healthy but scared (and somewhat damp; it had rained) rabbits, the fox had made his getaway. As soon as we let them back in Goat dashed behind the sofa, where he hides when scared. Mymble sat in her hutch and glowered.

We went and bought a bottle of wine for the neighbour, thanks for potentially saving their lives. He was embarassed slightly but happy to accept it and we chatted a little bit - he has two cats and worries about foxes himself. But he also told us about a family of foxes in the Church across Mitcham Road which you can go and look at. He seemed a really lovely bloke. He has lived there for three years, we have lived next door for two: we had never spoken before now. This is my fault, largely: I don't make the effort I should with neighbours. I'm glad I had the opportunity to change that policy this time, especially at the moment.
